A hidden fear that may be tripping you up!

Ah, are we really almost at the end of the Summer? My sun freckled self is so grateful I got to go to the beach these past few months. For a while there, I thought we’d be going nowhere. It’s been a year of real unknowns and change hasn’t it?!

Regardless of circumstances this year, as a life coach and entrepreneur, change has always felt imminent which, has often caused the fearful part of my mind to constantly question all the things that could go wrong.

A few times recently, however, my thoughts and fears have started to flit in a seemingly different direction. It has for many of my clients too. And that is not toward a fear of what could go wrong or fail but rather, what could go right.

Great shift, eh?!

Now, here’s the kicker! With that, can come NOT a fear of failure, but rather, a fear of success.

Now, I know what you’re thinking…

“That’s gotta be dumb, right?! A fear of success?? How can you be afraid of success?” Especially when, presumably, you WANT to succeed?

But what if I were to say to you that a fear of success is less about the success itself and more about a fear of its consequences.

For example, with success could come added responsibility, pressure, expectation, a lot of change and bigger challenges.

This all, of course, depends on your goal and definition of success.

Regardless, with success comes some level of change. If you try something new and fail, you go back to what you know. But if you try something new and succeed, you head into unchartered territory. The unknown. Things are different and that can be scary.

Imagine yourself succeeding at your goal, have you ever thought, perhaps counter intuitively, about any of your fears surrounding success? These may be even more insidious and subtle than a fear of failure AND also get in the way more than you think.

Part of my work as a coach is about helping you uncover hidden fears, beliefs and blind spots, to coach you to step outside of them and move forward in a new and more powerful way.

If you’re unsure of what’s in YOUR way, send me a message with the word, “blindspot” and let’s help you uncover what’s really going on.
