Toodle-pip!
/This year has been exactly the same as the last ten....said no one ever (do I have to write…especially this one?!).
So, as the shortest day of the year (for northern hemisphere folk) is almost upon us this December, I felt it was prime time to engage in a practice I do every year (or at least the last 5). That is my 12 month review. This usually constitutes a series of wins and learning opportunities experienced since January but this year, for some reason, it feels more apropos to take a look at what this indistinguishable year has caused a sentiment of gratitude for.
1. I couldn't travel in the way I normally would BUT it inspired the idea to take some wild camping trips more locally next year. I've always been an outdoorsy girl and I'm very excited about this.
2. I couldn't ice skate much BUT I paid more attention to other activities like hiking and baking! I've discovered a few new things in those arenas. It was pretty fun! I may also be using some of these newly acquired baking skills to help me with Christmas gifts this year!
3. When the world first went into lockdown, many of my plans were scuppered BUT I also felt a huge pressure lift. I didn't have to be any other place at any particular time, except home. I suddenly felt the collective 'slow down' everyone was talking about globally. As a result, my inner hustler relaxed a little.
4. Things changed fast, the future seemed uncertain and I had my moments of anxiousness BUT I wasn't alone. Everyone was impacted. It was, hence, a widely accepted topic of conversation.
5. Some aspects of life were lost BUT I've experienced many in my life and business reflect more on what they truly want in life moving forward. I think that's pretty neat to see.
6. We couldn't see people in the way we normally would BUT I am so grateful for the internet and its ability help create some semblance of connection. Email, social media, zoom etc. Can you imagine life this year without it?! It has helped me keep connection with family, watch live streamed theatre shows with friends, get support from my coach and therapist and allowed me to continue to be both inspired and have a reason to get dressed in the mornings for my clients. So grateful!
What have you been grateful for this wildly indistinguishable year?
Toodle-pip 2020!
I hope you find some things to be grateful for these last couple of weeks. Merry Christmas (for those that celebrate) and see you here via the wonders of the internet in 2021.
